General bulb-planting advice and tips

  • Choose quality bulbs: When ordering, select firm, plump bulbs free from mold or damage. Bigger bulbs often produce bigger and more robust blooms. We order all of our bulbs from Blomsterverden here in Denmark.

  • Plant at the right depth: Follow the recommended planting depth on the label for each variety to ensure proper growth and flowering.

  • Sun exposure: Most spring bulbs prefer full sun to partial shade. Ensure they receive at least 6 hours of sunlight a day.

  • Well-drained soil: Good drainage is essential to prevent bulb rot. If your soil retains water, consider amending it with compost or sand.

  • Fertilize sparingly: Apply a balanced fertilizer when planting and again in early spring. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to leggy growth.

  • Mulch for protection: Mulch helps regulate soil temperature and conserves moisture. Apply a 2-3 inch (5-7.5 cm) layer after planting.

  • Water wisely: Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Reduce watering after flowering.

  • Remove spent flowers: Deadhead the tulips after they've finished flowering, but leave the stem. This way, the bulb can absorb the energy and become even stronger for next year.

By planting these beautiful bulbs this fall, you're setting the stage for a breathtaking spring garden. Whether you're a seasoned gardener or just starting, these varieties are sure to bring joy and color to your outdoor space. Happy gardening!
